Farmers’ Market expands hours, adds vendors

Beginning May 4, the year-round Cooperstown Farmers’ Market will open an hour earlier, 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. These expanded hours will continue through December. The Market’s 40 farmers, food producers, makers, and artisans are located within 50 miles of Cooperstown. A core group of 25 vendors are at the Market every week, others come every other week or once a month.

Vendors returning to the market for the May-December season include: Ariginal Art, Art Farm Flowers, Empire Natural Foods, Girasole Farm, Mimikis, Pail Shop Vineyards, Painted Goat Farm, Sasha Glinski Studios, Straight from the Hive, Windfall Designs, and Uncommon Kin Cidery. They join year-round vendors: Arabeth Farm, ARK Floral, Black Willow Pond Farm, Chatty Wren Coffee Roasters, Chloe’s Bakeshop, Crystal’s Customs, Gaia’s Breath Farm, Heller’s Farm, Italian Cookie Home, L’ouvriere Candle Studio, Middlefield Orchard, Mill Hollow Maple, Mountain View Dairy, Nectar Hills Farm, Red Sky Homestead, RevSpirits, Rock Hill Farm, SkinBiome, Tech Tamer Woodworks, Terracotta Republic, Traveling Herb Farmer, Weinert’s Elk Creek Farm, and Wildwoods Woodturning.

New vendors joining the Market for the first time are Bison Island Ranch, which will sell bison meat, including sausage, steaks, brisket and jerky; Vêsucré, which will offer plant-based ice cream, and Leatherstocking Exotics, selling bonsai and orchids. Bison Island’s first day at the Market is May 4, while the other two vendors will join the Market later in May.

“I am thrilled to be part of the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market” said Susan Golembeski, Owner/Rancher of Bison Island Ranch in Sharon Springs. We take pride in our regenerative ranching practices and it is an honor to share our high quality, nutrient dense, lean, grass-finished bison meat with our local community.”

“May is the traditional start to the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market’s new season, when we welcome new and returning vendors as well as beloved spring favorites like asparagus, wild leeks, spring onions, radishes, fresh flowers, and more. There’s no better place to be on a Saturday in Cooperstown than the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market, especially with the promise of springtime in the air,” said Ellen Pope, executive director of Otsego 2000, which started the Farmers’ Market in 1991. Pope noted that the Market offers fresh local produce, meat, poultry, cheese, spirits, cider, home goods, eggs, maple syrup, honey, baked goods, made-to-order paninis, prepared foods, gifts, native plants, art, skincare, candles, toys, décor, baskets, and more.

Music, Free Kids’ Activities, and SNAP Welcome and Matched

Live music is featured at the Market every Saturday, from 10 am to noon. On the first Saturday of the month, Miss Jen offers a free kids’ craft. On May 4, she will offer a seed planting activity.

SNAP is welcomed and matched up to $20 at every Market through the Cooperstown Lions Club SNAP Match Program. For more information, go to www.cooperstownfarmersmarket.org.

The market is located at 101 Main Street in Pioneer Alley in Cooperstown, near Doubleday Field.
