The Gilbertsville Historic District, which was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, was inspired by a plan to place dams that would flood the Butternut Valley destroying the historic landscape. In the Village of Gilbertsville, this is just one example of the advocacy that has led to action in the areas of education, natural resources, and human rights. Come enjoy a walking tour of Gilbertsville, focused on Advocacy and Activism. Led by Dr. Cindy Falk, Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies at SUNY Oneonta and Professor of Material Culture at the University’s Cooperstown Graduate Program.
This walking tour has been funded in part by a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The cost is $10 per person. Please register in advance online or by calling Otsego 2000 607/547-8881. The walking tour will begin at Overlook Park, at the intersection of State Route 51 and County Road 4. Walking tours last about two hours and can include walking on uneven or steep terrain.
The Otsego 2000 Historic Preservation Walking Tour Series continues September 8 with Old Hartwick Cemetery: What Burying Grounds Tell Us, and October 6 with Worcester: Stepping Back to the 1880s.
