BECOME A “HARDY LOCAVORE” AT THE COOPERSTOWN FARMERS’ MARKET THIS WINTER

The Cooperstown Farmers’ Market announces a new challenge to reward shoppers at its Winter Saturday Markets: become a “Hardy Locavore” by shopping at 10 or more markets between now and March 26. The Cooperstown Farmers’ Market, located in Pioneer Alley at 101 Main Street in Cooperstown, is open 10 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.

Winter Cooperstown Farmers’ Market vendors include: ARK Floral, Arabeth Farm, Black Willow Pond Farm, Byebrook Farm, Chatty Wren Coffee, Crystal’s Customs, Elk Creek Farm, Empire Natural Foods, Gaia’s Breath Farm, Heller’s Farm, Italian Cookie Home, Le Marais Chocolat, Middlefield Orchard, Mountain View Dairy, Mill Hollow Maple, Nectar Hills Farm, Rock Hill Farm, Sharon Springs Granola, Traveling Herb Farmer, Terracotta Republic, and Wildwoods Wood Turning.

“We are delighted to be a year-round Farmers’ Market, and the Hardy Locavore program is a way to celebrate the people who shop with us every week as well as to promote the wonderful variety of local food, crafts, and artisan offerings available at the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market,” says Karrie Larsson, Market Manager at Otsego 2000.

Hardy Locavore punch cards are available at the welcome table at the Market. Once you make a purchase, bring the card to Karrie Larsson or a Farmers’ Market volunteer and they will note your participation.

The Cooperstown Farmers’ Market, founded and managed by Otsego 2000, supports local growers, farmers, food producers, and artisans and offers a direct connection to the consumer. The Cooperstown Farmers’ Market and the Cooperstown Lions Club have partnered to offer SNAP Match. SNAP Match enables customers to stretch their grocery dollars by doubling an EBT coin distribution with SNAP Match Vouchers.  In 2020, the Community Foundation of Otsego County provided a grant to increase the SNAP Match by $10 in light of the pandemic. The SNAP Match PLUS program provides a 1:1 match up to $15, PLUS an extra $10. Market customers using $15 or more in SNAP benefits will receive an extra $25 to spend at the market.

Otsego 2000 is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1981 to ensure the Otsego Lake region remains a masterpiece of nature by protecting and supporting its environmental, scenic, cultural, historic, and agricultural resources and its economic well-being. Otsego 2000 accomplishes its mission through programs like the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market, Otsego Outdoors, Glimmerglass Film Days, historic preservation initiatives, and environmental stewardship.
