Zucchini Day at the Farmers’ Market

To mark National Zucchini Day, the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market will celebrate the prolific summer squash at the Saturday Market on August 6. The 8th annual Zucchini Races will be held throughout the day. Children are invited to decorate a zucchini and add wheels to create zucchini race cars, which will be raced down a 16-foot track. Supplies provided by Otsego 2000 and zucchini provided by Heller’s Farm.

Home gardeners are invited to participate in a Zucchini Growing Contest, with prizes given for the largest zucchini in both adult gardener and youth/child (under 18) gardener categories. Gardeners will have the option to donate zucchini to the Cooperstown Food Pantry. There will be a selection of recipes you can make with zucchini including appetizers, main dishes, pickles, and desserts. In addition, Local Seisiún will perform Irish trad 10 am to noon.

“Zucchini Day is a great tradition of the Market that celebrates the bounty of the summer season and offers a fun activity for our smallest shoppers,” said Karrie Larsson, the Market Manager at Otsego 2000, which started the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market in 1991. National Zucchini Day is August 8.  

Located at 101 Main Street in Pioneer Alley, the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market is open on Saturdays throughout the year. Saturday hours are 9 am - 2 pm, May through December, and 10am – 2pm January through April. In addition, during July, August, and September, the Market is open on Tuesdays from 12 pm – 5 pm. SNAP/EBT is welcome at every Market. With the support of the Cooperstown Lions Club, the Market offers SNAP Match, providing up to $15 in matching funds when customers shop with SNAP.
